Motorola added two new routers designed for the service provider market, one a data-only device, the other supporting both WiMAX and Wi-Fi.
Motorola’s new customer premises equipment products are the CPEi 800 (data only) and the CPEi 885 (WiMAX/Wi-Fi/VoIP). The two complement the first product in the company’s 800 series: the CPE 825 (data and VoIP).
The company described its CPEi 800, offered in all bands, as a basic, low-cost, data-only wireless modem for fast market entry into low teledensity markets, or markets where operators are otherwise challenged to deliver high-speed Internet access.
It requires no installation and connects the subscriber to high-speed access in seconds. Availability of the CPEi 800 is planned for August 2010.
The CPEi 885 follows on the company’s previous CPEi 775 unit. Motorola said it’s the first fully integrated CPE that supports WiMAX and Wi-Fi b/g/n. It will initially be offered in the 3.5 GHz band.
The device is a multiple port data, VoIP and high-end Wi-Fi (b/g/n and 2x2n) device that incorporates a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 2 x 2n router.
This model also supports Wi-Fi-protected setup (WPS), which today is only available on high-end Wi-Fi routers. It features one data and two ATA ports, making it possible for subscribers to enjoy an integrated 4G service.
The CPEi 885 is scheduled for availability in Q4 2010.
