Motorola and Texas Instruments are expanding their strategic relationship in order to co-design and co-develop 3G, WiMAX and OMAP technologies for mobile devices.
Motorola is currently developing 3G handsets around customized processors that are based on TI’s OMAP 3 architecture, as well as advanced, unique 3G and 3.5G building blocks from both Motorola and TI. Handsets using this solution are expected to hit the market as early as 2008.
TI will help Motorola develop a customized, low-power version of mobile WiMAX technology suitable for mobile devices. TI will provide digital design elements, high-performance analog components, RF solutions, and manufacturing process and fabrication expertise to the effort. Motorola plans to use the technology in mobile devices it is targeting for launch also in 2008.
