Motorola brought some of its newest wireless technology to Europe, including an updated version of its wireless network design tools and upgrades to its voice over wireless LAN (VoWLAN) product portfolio. At the same time, the company announced a wireless technology trial with BT.
Motorola is announcing what it’s calling its “global release” of Wireless Manager 2.0, which service providers can use to design, deploy and manage wireless broadband networks and wireless LANs. The company originally launched the product at the end of last year.
At the same time, the company announced the forthcoming availability in Europe of its Total Enterprise Access and Mobility (TEAM) VoWLAN and entry-level TEAM Express solutions. The set of tools enables enterprise users to integrate voice in their WLANs.
TEAM VoWLAN goes beyond voice, Motorola said, with mobile e-mail, calendar/contact sync, text messaging, Internet/intranet access and the flexibility of Windows Mobile 6.1 for line-of-business applications.
Finally, BT plans a trial of Motorola’s TuVista software at the BT Paralympic World Cup, being held in Manchester, England, May 20-25. BT will use TuVista to deliver highlight content, such as replay video footage, directly to subscribers’ mobile handsets via BT’s Openzone Wi-Fi network before, during and after the event.
BT is working through CanvasM, a joint venture between Tech Mahindra and Motorola. CanvasM will host the Motorola TuVista core application server as a managed service, offer technical support and operations, and operate the authoring tools during the trial, which will cover athletics, swimming, track cycling and wheelchair basketball.
Motorola said the trial is intended to demonstrate an end-to-end, near-live content creation, management and distribution software solution.
