New Jersey-based Holy Name Hospital is saving money and offering patients and staff timely service, thanks to a new deal that made Optimum Lightpath its telecommunications provider.
Optimum Lightpath, a division of Cablevision, is providing the hospital voice and data services that help it access its online clinical information database, as well as real-time registration for pandemic detection surveillance and patient insurance validation.
Optimum Lightpath said it helps Holy Name Hospital deliver improved patient care at the hospital bedside, the doctor’s office and remotely from the home, while saving it approximately $50,000 per year.
“In a competitive environment like this, where patients demand the fastest, most advanced services and physicians need access to reports and images in seconds, not minutes, speed is life and diversity is key. That’s why we switched to Optimum Lightpath,” said Mike Skvarenina, assistant vice president of information systems at Holy Name Hospital. “By increasing our bandwidth from a 3 MB connection to a 100 MB connection, we added much more capacity, speed and reliability for significantly less than it would cost for similar services with another carrier.”
With Optimum Lightpath, Holy Name Hospital has instant access to its online clinical information system, enabling physicians and other caregivers to gain access to test results, CT/nuclear and PET scan images and patient histories in just seconds – remotely from the home, in the office, at the patient bedside or in the emergency room.

In August, Optimum Lightpath struck a similar deal with Long Island-based Medical Arts Radiology, which is one of the largest medical imaging groups on the island.
