Time Warner Cable (TWC) has launched the TV Caller ID service for 50,000 of its subscribers in the New York City area, according to the New York Post.
The offering is being made available, free of charge, to TWC subscribers with both phone and cable service. In the next few months, TWC plans to rollout the technology in its New York footprint and elsewhere.
In June 2005, TWC rolled out a Caller ID on TV service in its Columbia, S.C., system. In September of the same year, the MSO launched the service in its New York division. Since then, TV Caller ID has been implemented in more than half of TWC’s 23 divisions.
Integra5 has deployed the service with Tier 1 service providers and several smaller service providers, and the company has deployed Caller ID on a PC, as well. Studies by Integra5 have shown that blended services are well received by customers and can reduce churn in the face of competition.
In November, Cablevision began offering a Caller ID on TV service to its subscribers (story here). In March, Cablevision announced that it had surpassed one billion Caller ID on TV messages on its customers’ TV screens (story here).
And according to the Post, Comcast is testing a TV Caller ID service, and AT&T is said to be working on it for its U-verse offering.
The technology logs the last 10 incoming calls, including the caller’s name, number, date and time stamp.
