Aiming to help cable operators tap a new revenue stream with business customers, Narad Networks and Axerra Networks have combined on a system designed to deliver T-1 voice and data services via existing hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) networks.
The platform, which will find competition from vendors such as Vyyo Inc., links up Axerra’s “Pseudo-Wire” customer premise gear with Narad’s Ethernet-over-coax network system. The tandem can support up to 1,000 T-1 circuits via a single chassis, the companies claim. The combo can also support up to 200 T-1s per node today, with plans to push that to 500 later this year, they add.
“This combined solution fills a large and important product and service gap between commercial DOCSIS [solutions], which often do not have sufficient return path capacity to provision T-1s, and fiber, which is cost-prohibitive for the broad T-1 market,” said Narad CEO Michael Collette, in a statement.
