The National Cable & Telecommunications Association, CableLabs and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers announced this morning that technical paper submissions were open for the Spring Technical Forum, which is part of The Cable Show in Washington D.C.
The 2013 Spring Technical Forum program is targeted toward a broad cross-section of senior-level technologists and those with engineering management, operational and financial responsibilities, with a specific focus on innovation, R&D and the business of technology in the rapidly evolving digital marketplace.
The goal of the call for papers is to focus on new science, technology, services, algorithms and architectures for cable. While a typical deployment timeframe might be a few years, papers that explore concepts pertaining to either current or future broadband networks are encouraged, according to a joint release by the three organizations.
Potential topics include the new DOCSIS 3.1 specification, CCAP, home networking, HEVC, all-IP transport and cloud/unicast/OTT architectures.
“Cable’s powerful networks deliver more media, entertainment and information value to consumers than any other platform in America,” said Dan Pike, GCI’s chief technical officer and chair of the 2013 Spring Technical Forum Committee. “The demand for new services, faster delivery and stunning anywhere/anytime user experiences is driving a whole new evolution in cable’s technology infrastructure. This is the forum that contemplates cable’s amazing future and the scientific advancements that will shape it.”
Prospective authors interested in preparing and presenting a paper at the 2013 Spring Technical Forum should submit a proposal using the online submission tool no later than Jan. 21. Authors who have been selected to present their papers will be notified by the end of February and will be invited to present the highlights of their written work during the Forum.
The Cable Show 2013 is slated for June 10-12 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
