NDS Group has laid claim to being the top digital pay-TV vendor in India and offered up its presence in 20 million homes there as proof of that claim.
With an industry-estimated average of five people per household, NDS said it was helping to enable a next-generation TV experience for 100 million viewers in India.
“We entered the Indian pay-TV market in 1995, and this latest milestone is a testament to not only our pioneering work with some of the most successful cable TV and satellite platforms in India, but also to the remarkable growth in the India pay-TV market,” said Sue Taylor, senior vice president and general manager for NDS Asia Pacific. “India is expected to overtake the U.S. in the number of DTH homes within the next year, and we’re committed to helping operators introduce next-generation applications that will continue to enhance their subscriber offering.”
With offices in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, NDS said it has invested more than $250 million in India. The company currently employs more than 1,900 people in India, with its largest presence in a research and development center in Bangalore.
NDS is working with numerous pay-TV operators throughout the country, including satellite providers Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV, Den, Hathway, and the newly announced Darsh Digital and Jak Communications in the cable sector.
