NDS has cut separate deals to provide content security for two companies aiming to help service providers broadcast television signals to PCs. One is with VBox Communications; the other is with CyberLink.
Cat’s Eye Premium from VBox enables users to view and store digital HDTV broadcast content on their PCs – securely, with NDS technology. Cat’s Eye Premium is an HDTV receiver optimized for reception of video, audio, and IP data, providing digital set-top-box functionality for a PC. It provides full DVR capabilities, the company said. It hooks up to PCs via a USB or PCI slot.
VBox intends to show it at next week’s CES show.
CyberLink, meanwhile, integrated NDS’ VideoGuard PC with its PowerCinema TV.
Where VBox provides a separate piece of equipment that acts as a set-top, PowerCinema TV is software that makes the PC itself behave like a set-top.
PowerCinema supports full TV services including live broadcast channels, DVR functionality, electronic program guides, and on-demand services – securely, with NDS technology.
