As been the case for the last couple months on the Netflix ISP Index, things remained pretty quiet when it came to any real movement on the U.S. leaderboard in September. Verizon Fios maintained its apex position for major providers with a 3.70 Mbps speed, and CenturyLink rounded out the bottom at 1.95 Mbps among major ISPs. CenturyLink did move up on speed, however, from 1.88 Mbps in August to 1.95 Mbps in September.
Netflix continues to separate Time Warner Cable and Bright House from Charter performance for the time being. Bright House kept is second place slot just ever so slightly under Fios at 3.67 Mbps, and there some minor switches in placement by Comcast, Charter and Time Warner Cable.
Netflix says its ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions, according to the company.
