Sony has signed a deal with Netflix to stream Netflix’s movies to high-definition Bravia TV sets that are connected to the Internet.
Netflix is the latest company to join Sony’s Bravia Internet Video platform. Netflix members will be able to access more than 12,000 movies and TV shows this fall directly through Sony’s Internet video-capable HDTVs, and on previous Bravia TVs that have Sony’s Internet Video Link module.
By connecting the TV to their existing broadband connection, Bravia owners can access online video, music and content from more than 25 providers, including Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Sports Illustrated, Sony Pictures, Crackle, Slacker, Epicurious.com, Concierge.com, Style.com and Dailymotion.com.
“Sony was first to bring Internet video to the TV, and we continue to deliver one of the largest and most diverse catalogs of content to customers through Bravia Internet Video,” said Jeff Goldstein, vice president of Sony Electronics’ television business. “Adding Netflix gives many of our customers access to a vast library of streaming content through their existing Netflix accounts.”
In April, Amazon added HD video to its on-demand service, offering consumers the ability to rent movies and purchase television episodes shown in HD, and the online retailer said that customers could use the Sony Bravia Internet Video Link device to order and watch HD movies.
