Netflix’s ISP Speed Index for May didn’t show any month-to-month movement among U.S. operators on the leaderboard. The index is a measure of primetime Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network, the streaming service points out. Faster Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times, and fewer interruptions, it adds.
Comcast remained in the apex position at 3.96 Mbps, with Grande Communications and Verizon Fios not far behind with 3.92 Mbps. WOW! came in at 3.91 Mbps.
Netflix did point out in a blog that Viasat and Verizon DSL experienced speed gains last month that were reflected in the index. Viasat’s speed was said to have increased to 1.52 Mbps, up from 1.23 Mbps the month prior. Verizon DSL’s speeds reportedly climbed by 0.26 Mbps, bringing its monthly average to 2.96 Mbps.
