The Village of Lynbrook, N.Y. has announced plans to implement lighting and other infrastructure improvement measures at its public facilities allowing the village to cut energy consumption by 32 percent and save $4.4 million over 15 years.
Johnson Controls, a global leader in building efficiency, will oversee the self-funding project that includes replacing more than 1,100 existing streetlights and interior lighting in public buildings with energy-efficient systems. The project includes additional energy-saving improvements to the library, village hall, public works department, fire department headquarters and the village pool.
The program will be funded by grants, rebates and energy savings that are expected to create a surplus of $730,000 – after payments – over the life of the 15-year performance contract between the village and Johnson Controls.
“We are looking to Johnson Controls with its years of experience in private-public partnerships to enable the Village of Lynbrook to upgrade its infrastructure, save energy, reduce its carbon footprint and create local jobs while not costing taxpayers a single penny,” said Mayor William J. Hendrick.
“This project will increase the comfort and well-being of village employees and residents,” said Barb Morecz, regional vice president, Building Efficiency, Johnson Controls. “At the same time, it shows the dedication of Mayor Hendrick and the village board to energy efficiency and conservation.”
Work on the project is expected to begin this month, with completion set for May of 2012.
