Multicom debuts elimination/insertion system
Multicom has announced another addition to its product line – the new M-CEFMOD Channel Elimination/Insertion system for cable TV applications. The M-CEFMOD is suited for use in applications where a television channel must be eliminated to make way for the insertion of a local or premium channel of content.
The M-CEFMOD Channel Elimination/Insertion system features the ability to remove a digital or analog signal, and to reinsert a premium digital channel (in an analog format) or a locally originating signal on any desired channel from 2 through 53.

This is all done within a single unit, which is available in either a one RU rackmount or as a wallmount unit. No processors are required.
Schools are using the M-CEFMOD for broadcasting local school news channels instead of the standard cable programming. MDU’s are adding security camera and directory channels to their cable TV programming.
Hotels are providing premium digital channels on several analog channels without having to add set-top boxes to every room or change out television sets. Hospitals and nursing homes are adding directory/facility information channels to their programming.

Draka expands MDU fiber cable portfolio
Draka Communications Americas has introduced a new line of fiber cables designed for installation inside residential multi-dwelling units and commercial multi-tenant units.
The cables are available in colorcoded six-fiber or 12-fiber units and are intended for use with wallmounted conduit systems typically found in residential hallways or office corridors.
The newest addition to the ezInterconnect cable solution family, Draka Indoor Bundle Drop, is part of a continuing expansion of MDU fiber cable products aimed to reduce the time and cost of fiber deployment inside apartments, condominiums and retail centers. The Indoor Bundle Drop can provide the installer with time and cost savings by enabling efficient and rapid deployment to multiple locations on the same floor.
The product leverages Draka’s bend-insensitive optical fiber technology, including Ultra Bend Insensitive Fiber (UBIF) BendBright-Elite, which provides low loss in radii as small as 5 mm. The Indoor Bundle Drop may be pre-connectorized for “plug and play” applications and fitted with a pulling sock to facilitate routing through wall penetrations.
The product is lightweight and flame retardant, and individual subunits are uniquely identified for traceability.
Trilithic intros OTDRs
Trilithic has unveiled the new TFS-2000 Series of optical time-domain reflectometers.
Designed for everyday use in the field on a wide variety of networks, the TFS-2000 Series combines a video scope, insertion loss test set and visible light source in a small handheld unit.
And according to Trilithic, they are the only low-cost OTDRs with allin-one capability.
The OTDRs offer nearly instantaneous bootup time, an optional video scope for inspecting fiber connections and a twometer event dead zone that provides resolution typically found in muchhigher-priced OTDRs. A built-in light source and power meter eliminate the need for separately maintained and operated meters, while replaceable NiMh batteries reduce the cost of ownership.
Used in conjunction with Trilithic’s TFS-301 power meter and TFS-201 light source, users can perform insertion loss tests and do fast easytrace analysis and reporting with the supplied software.
