Indianapolis, Ind. – Trilithic Inc. has introduced the Advanced Communication Test System (ACTS), a server which performs a variety of tests related to cable system advanced communication services, including VoIP and high-speed data. The server enables a VoIP RTP test from any field test point with or without Unsolicited Grant Service (UGS), as well as high-speed throughput (UDP up to 40 Mbps max).

The VoIP test enables efficient service pre-installation verification with a set of measurement data including upstream and downstream latency, jitter, packet loss and MOS, according to the company. The throughput test adds an increased level of security by enabling customizable communication ports, and it doesn’t write files to the hard drive.

Peterborough, Ontario – Lindsay Broadband has introduced an MDU-UPS system to provide cable operators with increased quality of service and reliability for advanced digital services. The LHA35-RM-UPS is a 1 GHz amplifier that comes complete with a battery-based uninterruptible power supply housed in a hinged wall-mount, high-impact, polycarbonate enclosure.
Weighing in at 12.5 pounds, the system maintains normal operation for a minimum of 10 hours during a power outage with a 0 ms power transfer time.

Field technicians can use the compact test set for virtually every home network testing requirement including Ethernet, WiFi, HomePNA and home wiring, according to Sunrise. The integrated unit eliminates the need for multiple, single-purpose test sets and ensures that comprehensive installation and maintenance testing can be completed in a single trip, according to the company.The GTT includes Predictive Next Step Logic, making it suitable for both trained technicians seeking in-depth analysis and less skilled users who can rely on step-by-step instructions to guide them through the troubleshooting process.
An intuitive menu and automatic “go-no-go” test routines reduce technician training time and increase effectiveness.The lightweight GTT verifies networks, tests wiring and cables, validates connectivity, tests WiFi signal strength and generates reports detailing the results of each installation, which can be uploaded for future analysis. The unit includes Home Wiring Testing – it identifies shorts, grounds and cable terminations, checks cable loss, verifies POTS voltage and places calls; HomePNA Analysis – it validates HomePNA copper and coaxial connectivity and performance for the entire HPNA network by measuring signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), throughput and packet loss; WiFi – it verifies signal strength, channel conflicts and provides a list of available channels; and Ethernet Verifica-tion – it provides link status and speed to ensure connectivity.

Carlsbad, Calif. – Integrated Photonics Technology (Ipitek) has announced a new Advanced Services Transport (AST) hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) system. The new AST platform helps users optimize the performance of existing broadband networks and also rapidly deploy the new architectures and services required to meet the continuing expansion of standard broadcast, narrowcast, and data and voice services, according to the company.
The AST system utilizes compact opto-electric design techniques. The system provides high module density with a small footprint by using cutting-edge, low-power components and mechanical design techniques. The new platform introduces a common chassis for multiple types of system operations, while providing operating density in a minimum amount of rack space. Allowing for full system transport of multiple types of signals, the AST system enables the user to deploy a range of RF, QAM, video-on-demand and voice-over-IP digital signals for transport from a single platform.
System management is fully integrated into the chassis and modules, and is designed to be managed by Ipitek’s NodeWizard system or through an SNMPmonitoring and control system.
