SAN JOSE, Calif. – Sunrise Telecom Inc. has introduced the FTT-1000 Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), a small and lightweight unit. The OTDR is suited for installation and troubleshooting/maintenance of access, metro, and long haul networks, providing “excellent” dynamic range that can measure greater than 200 km of fiber length and small dead zones, according to the company. The unit has a battery life of more than eight continuous hours on a single charge. The FTT-1000 is available in two models, the FTT-1002 and FTT-1003, with 1310 nm/1550 nm and 1310 nm/1550 nm/1625 nm wavelengths, respectively.

The OTDR includes noise filtering, 4pt least square approximation (LSA) for splice loss measurement, automatic and manual mode configuration, and standard Bellcore GR-196 format for storage.

The FTT-1000’s rugged, splash-proof design provides added protection against mechanical shock encountered in field use. A bright, color LCD touchscreen and intuitive navigation make it straightforward to configure and operate for technicians of various skill sets, from beginner to expert, according to Sunrise. It features a WinCE operating system and includes USB and 10BaseT ports for data transfer, as well as PCMCIA and CF slots for additional storage memory.

Content delivery confirmation

COLUMBIA, Md. – XOrbit, a designer of management systems for terrestrial broadcasters and cable networks, has released its new content delivery confirmation system, ProofPositive. The system offers broadcasters, cable channels, advertising agencies, and other content originators a means of instantly validating the correct delivery of their content over the “last mile” of the broadcast chain, from the satellite or cable provider to the viewer’s home.

Most traditional broadcast monitoring and verification systems attach a digital watermark to the content to identify it as authentic and unaltered, according to the company, but these systems are incapable of detecting material that was not previously watermarked. In addition, the process of watermarking tens of thousands of content titles is costly and time-consuming, and watermarking systems are only able to mark and verify brief instances or single-frame lengths of material rather than entire programs, according to XOrbit.

XOrbit has eliminated the watermark and is deploying systems directly in consumer homes that can automatically capture aired programs in their entirety. The Proof-Positive server installed in the master broadcasting facility then uses an algorithm to compare the stream from the consumer’s location with the master broadcast stream. When the system identifies anomalies that drop below the broadcaster’s predefined threshold, such as drop-outs, audio problems, signal preemptions, or irregularities with advertising delivery and local avails, the system automatically e-mails an error notification to the broadcaster. The notification provides a link to additional information on the alert including market and demographic data, as well as the actual video stream demonstrating the error that can be downloaded and analyzed.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Eraser’s Model CW30 Large Reeler and Dereeler is tailored for use in dereeling, measuring, cutting and reeling operations by production kitters, jobber, and electrical contractors.

The CW30 is a collapsible unit that produces neat coils of wire and cable. The unit is capable of dereeling hanks or coils of material by reversing the reeling operation.

An adjustable friction clutch is incorporated to prevent overruns in dereeling operations.

Performance test tools

FOSTER CITY, Calif. – Asoka USA has unveiled two new performance test tools – the PlugLink AV Performance Network Tester (PL8060-PNT) and the PlugLink Performance Network Tester (PL8050-PNT) – for powerline networking.

To assist in the installation of powerline networks, Asoka performance network testers provide information such as bandwidth availability, packet loss information, and data on any jitter and latency issues.

The PL8060-PNT performance network tester is a 200 Mbps HomePlug AV tester for data, voice and IPTV. The PL8050-PNT performance network tester is an 85 Mbps HomePlug 1.0 tester for data and voice applications.
