FIBER OPTIC CABLE ASSEMBLIES

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Communications Test Design Inc. (CTDI) has released a new line of customized fiber optic cable assemblies available in simplex, duplex and up to 24-pair fan-out construction, with SC, LC and ST connector options. The assemblies are constructed using singlemode or multimode fiber. Hybrid connection and custom length assemblies are also available.

In conjunction with the release of the new line, CTDI has launched a Web portal where customers can view products, review technical specs, select delivery options, and complete orders.

DWDM ANALOG TRANSPORT

SAN JOSE, Calif. – InnoTrans Communications has introduced its Chromadigm Series, a DWDM analog transport system that offers up to eight wavelengths, each carrying full 1 GHz signals, with a reach of 30 km. The system is designed to carry 50 to 550 MHz worth of analog channels (same content on all wavelengths), and up to eight streams of 550 MHz to 1 GHz worth of 256 QAM content on one fiber. The product line features the capacity for up to eight wavelengths for distances up to 30 km, or four wavelengths with a reach of 40 km, and can carry new wavelengths in addition to the existing transmitter on the same fiber.

A simple field optical architecture allows the use of either a demux or a series of optical add/drop multiplexers for dropping signals along the way, according to the company. In addition, the system’s performance is comparable to standard single wavelength 1310 nm DFB lasers, and is compatible with existing nodes, requiring no field equipment modification.

The system is also compatible with analog or digital CWDM for return path signals.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT KIT

DENVER – WooshCom Corp. has introduced a battery replacement kit for Motorola IRT-1000 and IRT-2000 receiver/modulators. Priced at $99 in quantities of 20 or more, the new Model BK-1000 kit is designed to extend the life of IRTs, whose aging batteries are starting to cause reliability issues, according to WooshCom.

Technicians at an MSO’s headend can install the kit “on a live IRT that is still authorized and passing a video feed to customers,” according to Bruce Marler, president and CTO of WooshCom. “That way the headend staff doesn’t have to go through the painful and time-consuming de-authorization and re-authorization process. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes per IRT to perform the replacement. Our customers save the replacement cost of a new receiver and get the enhanced reliability of new batteries without having to ship the IRT anywhere.”

The batteries in the replacement kit have a 50 percent higher capacity than the original batteries, according to the company, ensuring that the IRTs will maintain their encryption keys for at least as long as the original batteries would have allowed.

INTERACTIVE TAP

HICKORY, N.C. – CommScope has unveiled a new line of Signal Vision interactive taps that give cable providers the ability to execute multiple new services without generating a truck roll. The taps feature the ability to remotely control the return path of a single or group of subscribers and to control a telephone bandpass for E911 compliance.

A special ingress control feature allows rapid identification of the source of reverse path noise of any subscriber port.
