Blonder Tongue ships new SD, HD encoders

Blonder Tongue Laboratories has shipped the first unit of its second-generation standard-definition encoder. The encoder allows service providers to add several hundred digital programs to their existing cable TV networks without costly upgrades to increase the bandwidth of the distribution plant.

The SD10E-QAM is suited for cable operators and for providing service in commercial facilities. Both the SD10E-QAM and its sister product, the AV10E-QAM, are now available for shipping through the company and its distributors.

SD10E-QAM

The SD encoder digitizes, encodes and multiplexes up to 10 digital SD-SDI (480i) and analog NTSC baseband audio/video inputs into one QAM output; it provides sub-band QAM output channels T7-T14, suitable for digital return path applications; it allows 10:1 multiplexing of any input combinations; it is compatible with the NTSC analog format and ITU Annex A and B digital QAM formats; it supports PSIP configuration for flexible major/minor channel assignments; and it supports QAM 1024 modulation.

Blonder Tongue also recently shipped its first HDE-2H-QAM encoder, the company’s second generation of high-definition encoders.

The HDE-2H-QAM is designed for the affordable delivery of HD programs over existing coaxial networks in commercial facilities. Both the HDE-2H-QAM and its sister product, the HDE-2C-QAM, are now available for shipping through the company and its distributors.

The HD encoder provides sub-band QAM output channels T7-T14, suitable for digital return path applications; is compatible with the NTSC analog format and ITU Annex A and B digital QAM formats; provides a front panel ancillary ASI output; offers flexible PSIP configuration; and it supports QAM 1024 modulation.

Ciena adds to CESD portfolio

Ciena has launched the CN 5150 Service Aggregation Switch, the latest addition to its Carrier Ethernet Service Delivery (CESD) portfolio.

The CN 5150 provides scalable subscriber capacity and deterministic Ethernet behavior in both controlled and uncontrolled temperature environments. It offers customers a flexible, costefficient network solution to support highly reliable wireless backhaul, Ethernet business service aggregation and delivery, and multi-purpose carrier Ethernet-based infrastructures.

The new CN 5150 broadens network operators’ service capabilities by supporting subscriber scalability, extended operating temperatures, higher port density and a d v a n c e d features, including a wide range of resilient, connection-oriented Ethernet services. These advanced capabilities enable service providers to accelerate their transition to more flexible and cost-effective pure-packet architectures.

In particular, the combination of features available with the CN 5150 makes it an ideal solution for satisfying unique LTE backhaul requirements, including support for the X2 interface, clock synchronization, scalability and difficult operating environments.

“The addition of CN 5150 to [the CESD] portfolio means our customers now have a fully manageable, GbE to 10 GbE aggregation platform that can be deployed in any extended temperature location,” said Philippe Morin, senior vice president of the global products group at Ciena.

Amdocs tackles bandwidth

Amdocs has introduced its FTTx Operational Product Pack, which is designed to support service providers as they expand capacity to meet the demands of a bandwidth-hungry world.

Amdocs’ preconfigured solution provides a complete package for the provisioning of broadband access across fiber, enabling a fast time to market and a low total cost of ownership for service providers.

The FTTx Operational Product Pack is a new addition to Amdocs’ CES 8 OSS pre-configured solution packs – the Amdocs Carrier Ethernet Operational Product Pack, Amdocs Backhaul Capacity Management Operational Product Pack and Amdocs Broadband Operational Pack – that help service providers expand and fulfill capacity in a cost-efficient manner.

Portuguese service provider Optimus is using products from Amdocs’ OSS portfolio for the modeling of physical and logical resources of its FTTH rollout. The Amdocs solution provides Optimus with complete visibility of its network assets, enabling it to accurately identify which assets are being deployed for which services and for which customers.
