OPTICAL NETWORKS – Aurora Touts Segmentation Toolkit
Aurora Networks says that it now offers the widest segmentation toolkit in the industry. The toolkit helps cable operators cost-effectively increase network bandwidth.
Aurora’s segmentation portfolio includes products for both the downstream and the upstream paths, as well as an optical passives offering that enables operators to implement full downstream and upstream segmentation for multiple nodes on just one fiber.
“A proper segmentation strategy exploits the existing network resources to maximize bandwidth per subscriber while minimizing capital expenditure. This enables cable operators to achieve a new level of quality of experience for the subscriber,” says John Dahlquist, vice president of marketing for Aurora Networks.
The company’s AT3545G C-band DWDM full-spectrum transmitters are designed to work in multiple applications – from transmission of up to 120 narrowcast QAM channels in the 300 MHz to 1 GHz frequency band in a broadcast/narrowcast overlay architecture, to a full spectrum transmitter application.
Aurora’s broadcast and narrowcast overlay system provides operators with flexibility and scalability. It uses the full network spectrum in order to provide for growing narrowcast services with greater fiber efficiency.
And the LcWDM O-band full-spectrum transmitters are cost-optimized for delivering increased bandwidth capacity per fiber for shorter reaches. They support up to eight wavelengths.
Aurora also offers two scalable, modular node platforms: the NC4000 and the NC2000. Both platforms are fully compatible, sharing the same modules and providing support for nextgeneration access modules, including Node PON and Fiber on Demand.
Aurora also boasts its digital return technology, which is optimized for segmentation, with more than 80 return segments supported on just one fiber.
Exfo Heads to the Cloud for Backup with Exfo Connect Apps
Exfo is going to the cloud to back up installation and maintenance operations. The company is introducing the first two of a planned suite of cloud-based software applications for its test systems.
The first Exfo Connect application is the Test Equipment Manager, which allows service providers to track and manage large pools of test equipment in the field. The second, the Test Data Manager, provides a highly secure and centralized environment to view or generate reports based on historical test data.
Delivered as a cost-effective cloudbased software service, Exfo Connect simplifies implementation and eliminates the need for local server installation or maintenance, Exfo says.
Germain Lamonde, Exfo’s chairman, president and CEO, says that the end result of developing an ecosystem of Windows-based, modular test platforms and then connecting them is to “increase operating efficiency and reduce operating expenses by delivering automation and intelligence to the test and measurement components of their operations.”
Exfo is also debuting its intelligent Optical Link Mapper (iOLM), a test solution that enables faster FTTx network characterization, providing an 85 percent time gain over the currently used OTDR test method.
White Sands Debuts New Connector
White Sands Engineering is introducing a new, one-piece, right angle 1023 DIN connector for Mini RG59 Cable.
Specifically designed for installations that require the cable to be routed 90 degrees from the connector interface, the 1.0/2.3FPB90 connector saves space and eliminates the problems caused by too tight a bend radius in the cable. And the connector is compatible with 23 AWG precision video cables, including YR46940, 1855A and VDM230.
The 1.0/2.3FPB90 is used for a variety of applications and settings, including video production trucks, cameras utilizing 1.0/2.3 jacks, internal chassis wiring and mating to 1.0/2.3 panels. The 1.0/2.3FPB90 return loss exceeds the SMPTE 292M requirement.
The company’s products are used in cable TV, broadcast, telco, home theater, security and other applications.
