Novatech’s 2960AX

SEATTLE, Wash. – Novatech Instruments Inc. has announced the Model 2960AX Disciplined Quartz Frequency Standard. The bench-top instrument provides a means to generate precise frequency reference signals for lab equipment, communications systems or other test and measurement equipment, according to the company. Containing an ovenized quartz crystal time-base, the unit has a stability of better than ±5×10-11 per day when disciplined to a 1 pps (pulse per second) source. The instrument uses an auto-adaptive disciplining algorithm, requiring no user intervention or tuning, that tracks the 1 pps from a GPS (Global Positioning System) smart antenna. The 2960AX features two 10 MHz and one 5 MHz outputs on the front panel, with two BNCs on the rear panel for 1 pps.
The unit provides two sinewave outputs of 10 MHz and one of 5 MHz. 1 pps “in” and “out” signals are available on the rear panel. The 2960AX features an auto-adaptive 1 pps disciplining algorithm allowing Rubidium performance when used with long-term stable 1 pps sources such as those derived from GPS. When combined with the GPS1 smart antenna system, the 2960AX provides a turnkey frequency standard for ground stations or the calibration laboratory.

UNIVERSAL MECHANICAL SPLICER
CHESSINGTON, Surrey, U.K. – Fujikura Europe Ltd. has launched its newly-upgraded Uni-versal Mechanical Splice (UMS) system, aimed at the FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) market. The UMS system is capable of splicing all standard telecom fiber from 250 mm to 900 mm with a single-handed action. The lightweight, handheld wedge tool device, measuring 142 mm x 57 mm x 22 mm, allows engineers to perform essential fiber connections quickly and easily, according to the company. The UMS system also offers an alternative to the use of pre-connectorized cables for FTTH installations.

The company has tested the UMS system in accordance with the conditions and criteria referenced in “Telcordia GR-765-CORE Generic Re-quirements for Single Fiber Single-Mode Op-tical Splices and Splicing Systems,” demonstrating maximum insertion loss of 0.5 dB and an average return loss of 40 dB.

BANDPASS FILTER
EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Communications & Energy Corp. has introduced a new bandpass filter designed for receive applications – the model 4001BPF(5800)(7) SMA bandpass filter. The filter has a 40 MHz passband centered at 5.8 GHz. The insertion loss is 1 dB with 1.5 dB at 5780 MHz and 5820 MHz. Rejection is greater than 25 dB at 5770 MHz and 5835 MHz; and greater than 50 dB at 5760 MHz and 5842 MHz. Connectors are SMA F/F standard. Other connector options are also available. The unit’s dimensions are approximately 14 inches x 3.875 inches x 2.75 inches.

MEDIA ASSET HANDLING
CLARET, France – Netia has made two additions to its Manreo software for video asset management and rich-media handling: the Warehouse Web Version 2.0 audio/video broadcast and display platform, as well as a new Video Recorder module that eases the migration of tape-based media to digital assets. Together, the two modules are designed to help content holders maximize productivity gains through efficient media asset management and use of rich media, according to the company. Manreo’s Warehouse Web Version 2.0 audio/video broadcast and display platform facilitates the centralization, sharing and viewing of audio, image, and video archives and simplifies the delivery of content over a variety of distribution channels.
The new Video Recorder Module supports migration of tape-based video to secure digital files. This addition to the Manreo line uses the RS-232 and RS-422 protocols to control external VTRs and allows users to connect a jog/shuttle control via a USB port for easy navigation. With functionality including start, stop, forward and rewind, the module controls the VTR and launches the acquisition and digitization (MPEG-2 with MainConcept) process. The operator can watch video as the media is being digitized and mark in and out points to create a clip or a new video.
