Nokia recently announced the completion of its acquisition of Seattle WiFi tech company Unium.
The agreement, reached in February, aims to bolster Nokia’s WiFi products portfolio by incorporating Unium software, which helps maximize in-home network speeds and ensure WiFi coverage across the entire residence.
Nokia officials said the software provides an intelligent mesh network — which enables gigabit-plus capacity throughout the home — along with band steering, fast roaming and either WiFi or Ethernet backhaul.
The system is easily deployed and offers self-learning and self-healing capabilities — including learning the capabilities of each device on a network. It measures wireless performance in real time and adjusts accordingly.
“Today’s WiFi solutions still have serious issues with sticky clients, interference, coverage gaps and capacity issues,” Federico Guillén, whose Fixed Networks business group will house Unium’s operations, said last month. “With Unium inside, our Nokia WiFi solution will deliver an unmatched user experience, going beyond what standard mesh WiFi solutions deliver today.”
