Nokia on Thursday introduced new analytics capabilities that will help operators predict and identify IP TV capacity and service issues.
The new tools include Capacity Advisor for Nokia Performance Manager (NPM) and Nokia Service Quality Manager (SQM).
According to Nokia, Capacity Advisor for NPM analyzes historical and present network use data to help operators predict the network capacity they need to keep up with growth. Nokia said the tool’s visualization feature helps operators pinpoint problematic regions in their network and check capacity using map control. Capacity Advisor also lets operators model hypothetical scenarios to determine where capacity bottlenecks would occur and plan upgrades accordingly.
Nokia said its new SQM for IP TV serves as another tool for operators to find and fix service issues 50 percent more quickly. With SQM, operators can view the IPTV quality they are delivering and prioritize corrective action.
The introduction of Nokia’s new tools comes amid a boom in IP video traffic.
According to Cisco, nearly 80 percent of all IP traffic across both the business and consumer markets will be from IP video by 2019, up from just 67 percent in 2014. Additionally, two thirds of IP traffic is expected to originate with non-PC devices by 2019.
