Numericable, which is France’s largest cable operator, has selected Casa Systems C10G cable modem termination system (CMTS) to support the deployment of its 100 Mbps data tier and VoIP service.

Usin the C10G puts Numericable on the evolutionary pathway to the cable industry’s cable converged access platform (CCAP) architecture that combines an edge QAM and CMTS onto one dense platform. Other CCAP players include Cisco, Motorola/Arris, CommScope and Harmonic, all of which touted their CCAP wares at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo last year. 

Numericable has over 9.8 million homes passed in its footprint. Under the terms of the agreement, Numericable will deploy Casa’s flagship C10G to allow for accelerated penetration of its ultra high-speed data service (UHSD), which features speeds in excess of 100 Mbps, across its footprint. Financial terms of the deal weren’t released.

“We are very pleased that they have selected Casa Systems as the vendor who will help them deliver UHSD today and to be part of their CCAP rollout in the near future,” said Jerry Goo, founder and CEO of Casa Systems. 

Casa Systems’ initial CMTS success has largely been with overseas operators, but it’s starting to make inroads with some of the largest cable operators in North America, although there have been no official announcements to date.  

Last week Casa took the wraps off of its C100G, which is the company’s new integrated CCAP chassis.
