Today, OEM Worldwide, an electronic contract manufacturer specializing in printed circuit board assemblies and high-level assembly for precision products in a variety of industrial and medical applications, announced an organizational name change to Onyx EMS, as it outlines strategies for future growth.
Under the new name, Onyx, the company will continue to serve its traditional markets with the same refined mix of advanced and highly technical engineering expertise along with excellence in quality and personal attention. This mix of quality, technology and trust has developed lasting partnerships that have made the company a success for more than 20 years and has put them in a position to serve new industries as the company evolves to meet growing demand in new sectors.
“The time is right for us to grow into new service offerings and indeed into a new identity as Onyx,” said Mike McCammack, President / CEO, Onyx EMS, LLC. “Our evolution will enable us to offer more services to our current customer base while reaching into new markets that will secure our growth for years to come.”
Onyx delivers a team-centered approach so customers can rely on their highly skilled design, engineering, testing and service professionals every step of the way for quality manufacturing of medical equipment, industrial equipment and controls, and network and telephone systems. The company anticipates further expansion in military, aerospace and smart grid markets.
In conjunction with the name change, Onyx is completing an $11 million expansion and improvement project to their manufacturing and engineering facilities over the next four years. The company broke ground on a 50,000 square-foot expansion to their existing headquarters in Watertown, SD, on Sept. 20, 2011. The expansion will double the company’s system-build and warehousing capacity.
Onyx will also upgrade and replace automated printed circuit board assembly equipment to increase current manufacturing capacity and prepare the company for expansion. Additionally, in Feb. 2011, the company opened a new Twin Cities Technical Sales office in Minneapolis with engineers available to respond to design and engineering needs for the company’s growing customer base in the area as well as positioning the organization for growth as it enters burgeoning new markets.
Onyx expects to add up to an additional 140 new technically skilled jobs to its board assembly, test and high-level assembly operations.
