Open-frame,. 80 W power supply suited for fan-less applications

June 1, 2021 By Redding Traiger

XP Power has launched a new range of open-frame 80W power supplies that offer a compact and low-cost solution for a wide range of lighting, display, industrial and technology applications. The low-cost units offer a high specification at a competitive price point, ensuring their suitability for high-volume applications.

The LCE80 is ideally suited for fan-less applications as no forced air is required. This significantly enhances the reliability of the overall system while reducing system size and weight as well as simplifying mechanical design. The silent fan-less operation makes the LCE80 ideally suited to applications where audible noise can be an issue such as in office environments.

The LCE80 range features a total of ten single output models covering the range 5.0V to 54.0V with efficiency levels as high as 90%. The output operates in constant voltage or constant current mode depending on the load condition, ensuring compatibility with a wide variety of applications.

An ultra-wide input range of 90 to 305VAC is offered as standard, allowing the units to operate safely at a single-phase high line of 277VAC nominal. All units in the range offer Class I and Class II operation and carry a wide range of relevant approvals including EN55032, EN55015, and EN61000-3 for EMC emissions and EN55035 and EN61547 for EMC immunity. Additionally, the units are approved to EN/UL/IEC62368-1 for ITE safety and EN61347-1/UL8750 for lighting and displays.

For loads greater than 50W all LCE80 units meet the harmonic Class C limits that are necessary for lighting applications. They are also compliant with the limited power source (LPS) requirements for 12V and above, ensuring a reduced risk of fire or electrocution during operation and handling as well as fault scenarios.

Housed in a convenient and compact 4” x 2” x 1.1” (101.6mm x 50.8mm x 27.9mm) open frame format, the LCE80 units include short circuits, overvoltage, and overload protection that protect the power supply and any load that it is powering.

The LCE80 series is priced at $30.38 for 500 pcs orders and is available from Allied Electronics, Digi-Key, Mouser, Newark, TRC Electronics or direct from XP Power and offers a 3-year warranty.

A frequency you can count on There are few constants in life, but what few there are might include death, taxes, and a U.S. grid frequency that doesn’t vary by more than ±0.5 Hz. However, the certainty of the grid frequency is coming into question, thanks to the rising percentage of renewable energy sources that…
