Optimum Lightpath lands another Verizon customer

Optimum Lightpath, Cablevision’s business telecommunications services division, has snagged another business customer away from Verizon – New Jersey-based Wall Township Public Schools.

Wall Township Public Schools was operating an advanced network that consisted of privately owned fiber between buildings, as well as 40 application servers powering a thin-client environment that served several thousand clients throughout the district.

The district had a 3 megabit Internet connection and was unsatisfied with their unpredictable phone bill, Optimum Lightpath said.

While initially setting out to upgrade to a 45 megabit connection, Optimum Lightpath enabled the district to boost its bandwidth speeds to 100 megabits, to pay a flat rate for phone service and to consolidate everything onto one bill, saving the district $80,000 per year, according to the company.

“We fully expected to stick with our incumbent service provider but were simply blown away by the amount of speed Optimum Lightpath was able to deliver while still saving us money,” said Jeffrey Janover, director of technology for Wall Township Public Schools.

In mid-February, New Jersey-based Denville School District switched from Verizon to Optimum Lightpath in order to save money and offer more bandwidth. And back in January, New Jersey-based Howell Township School District – the nation’s third-largest school district – dumped its incumbent provider and T1 ATM-based service in favor of Optimum Lightpath.

Also in February, Optimum Lightpath announced the availability of its 40-gigabit optical transport service for businesses in the New York metro area.
