Optimum Lightpath powers iSpeech’s text-to-speech cloud service

July 17, 2012 By Mike Robuck

Optimum Lightpath, a division of Cablevision, announced today that iSpeech is using its fiber network to support its international text-to-speech and speech recognition cloud service that is currently in use by more than 13,000 developers.

ISpeech is a text-to-speech and speech recognition provider and the maker of mobile apps DriveSafe.ly, iSpeech Translator and Caller ID Reader. In order to serve its growing customer base, iSpeech needed a reliable, high-bandwidth network.

To date, there have been more than 60 million downloads of iSpeech-powered applications around the world. All of the information and speech functionality supporting the applications are processed in real time by iSpeech’s Optimum Lightpath-connected data center in Newark, N.J.

“In the past, we’ve worked with service providers and experienced connectivity issues that made it difficult to maintain 100 percent uptime for our services,” said Heath Ahrens, CEO and founder of iSpeech. “Because iSpeech’s service is critical for our developers, businesses around the world and consumer safety apps like DriveSafe.ly, we needed a fast and reliable connection to our data center in Newark.”

ISpeech’s services have been used to read more than 1 billion SMS messages out loud to consumers around the world, including Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. Upon making an API available last summer, more than 13,000 developers began using it to create mobile apps, VoIP systems, GPS applications and more.

“As more consumers and businesses put their trust in cloud-supported services, they have high expectations around how the applications they use will perform from a security, reliability and speed perspective,” said Julia McGrath, senior vice president of marketing and business development for Optimum Lightpath. “Optimum Lightpath’s work with iSpeech is a shining example of how mid to large market businesses in the emerging cloud services sector can take advantage of our ubiquitous, 100 percent fiber network to support a growing operation and customer base.”
