At this week’s NXTcomm show in Las Vegas, the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) announced the winners of its yearly awards, which included a tie by Time Warner Cable (TWC) and Optimum Lightpath for the “Services Innovation” award.
In the MEF’s “2008 Award for North American Carrier Ethernet Service Provider of the Year” awards, Verizon won the “Best in Business” award. All of the awards were determined by a panel of industry analysts.
“This award reflects our commitment to service leadership and the successes we are seeing across all market segments,” said Optimum Lightpath GM Dave Pistacchio. “The MEF continues to be an important alliance of global industry leaders that is successfully globalizing Ethernet, and we are proud to be a contributing member.”
Optimum Lightpath won an MEF award last year, as well.
”Time Warner Cable is thrilled to be selected as a recipient of the prestigious MEF award,” said Kurt Fennel, TWC’s VP of product management.
Cox Business, a division of Cox Communications, was also a finalist for the “Services Innovation” award.
While the MEF was primarily composed of telcos in the early going, Optimum Lightpath, in April of 2006, was the first cable operation to join the MEF. Since then, the MEF has seen an influx of cable concerns, including CableLabs, Comcast, SuddenLink and Bright House Networks last year.
MEF also announced at the show that Actelis Networks, MRV Communications and Resolute Networks passed more than 330 stringent test conditions in order to verify their conformance to MEF18 Abstract Test Suite for Circuit Emulation Services over Ethernet (CESoETH).
