Optimum Lightpath unleashes 40 Gig optical transport service

Optimum Lightpath, a division of Cablevision, announced today the availability of its 40 Gigabit optical transport service for businesses in the New York metro area.

Large businesses, particularly financial institutions in the New York area, have been gobbling up bandwidth while also requesting lower latency on the services that are available to them from service providers. While subscribing to multiple 10 Gigabit links has largely served this need in the past, a move to 40 Gigabit can also deliver better network efficiencies for businesses and provide a platform built to handle ongoing demand increases for the foreseeable future.

“Optimum Lightpath works extremely closely with its customers to understand their ever-changing communication services needs,” said Dave Pistacchio, president of Optimum Lightpath. “If there is a technology need on our customers’ roadmap, it is on ours, as well. To that end, we’ve developed a 40 Gigabit optical transport service to align with our customers’ impending network upgrade strategies.”

In addition to lower latency, faster speed and more bandwidth, the service, which is available throughout Optimum Lightpath’s footprint, also features a flat-rate pricing structure.

Other benefits include the ability to scale up to 100 Gigabits when the need arises and point-to-point optical connections to ensure data security. The service is based on Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology, and Optimum Lightpath said it was positioned to support 40 Gigabit Ethernet when it becomes standardized.
