The personal robot Temi will go on the market and be for sale worldwide on October 1, for the price of $1,500, according to New Atlas.
This waste-high screen robot can follow you around the house and is prepared when you’re ready to make video calls or want to consume media. Temi features an array of sensors so it can navigate its environment without bumping into your couch or kitchen table.
The robot consists of a 360-degree LiDar, two depth camera, two RGB cameras, five proximity sensors, an IMU sensor and six time of flight linear sensors.
If the bot is left alone it will explore the house and create a 2D map of your home, but as an owner of Temi, you can tell it to remember specific locations. Just say, “Hey Temi, go to the kitchen,” and Temi will be on its way.
If you say, “Hey Temi, follow me,” Temi will track the source of the command with your face and then use its laser to follow your legs as you walk. It can then successfully follow you around.
Temi’s head is basically a tablet and runs as an Android. It’s not clear if it will run the Google Play store, but this might be unlikely since Temi’s creators want to launch an app store for Temi.
Currently, Temi understands commands in both English and Chinese, and they eventually hope to have it support more than 25 languages.
Temi is good to wheel around on once charge for up to eight hours, but it can autonomously find its way back to the charging dock.
The robot has been in mass production in China and shipping will begin in December.
