Entertainment-focused subscription streaming TV service Philo on Thursday announced it has added Cheddar Big News, PeopleTV and Tastemade to its channel lineup.
The newest additions are available as part of Philo’s now 40 channel base package, which costs $16 per month and also includes A&E, AMC, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, Food Network, HGTV, Lifetime, MTV, TLC, and Viceland, among others.
“Philo is simply a better way to watch TV, and with the addition of Cheddar Big News, PeopleTV and Tastemade, we are thrilled to add even more value for our subscribers,” said Andrew McCollum, Philo’s CEO, in a statement. “We built Philo for everyone who feels like TV was no longer serving them, and this is one more way we can stand apart.”
Earlier this week Philo launched a referral program giving subscribers a $5 credit for each referral, as well as a $5 credit for the subscriber they refer. Philo said there is no limit on the amount of credit subscribers can earn.
Launched last November, Philo offers up three concurrent live streams, and the ability to watch recorded shows up to 30 days later with unlimited DVR storage or on demand access. Subscribers can choose to add nine more channels for an extra $4 per month, including American Heroes Channel, Cooking Channel, Discovery Life, and Nicktoons.
Philo’s service, with its low-cost pricing and sports-free programming, may soon have a direct competitor in AT&T’s forthcoming ‘Watch’ service. Similar to Philo, AT&T Watch is slated to cost $15 per month (though free for AT&T wireless subscribers) and eschew sports content.
