Philo, a budget-friendly live TV streaming service, is expanding device support to include Apple TV and Amazon Fire devices this summer and has unlocked access to TV Everywhere app authentication for subscribers.
Philo originally focused on helping traditional TV providers stream video on university campuses, but last November launched its new $16 per month entertainment-focused OTT TV service that initially supported Roku, Google Chromecast and iOS devices.
The national vMVPD service also announced Monday that users now have access to programmer’s TVE apps and websites for almost all of the cable networks included their Philo subscription, including AMC, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel and MTV. Only Discovery’s OWN is excluded, though Philo noted it would be coming soon.
Philo’s 37-channel package also offers A&E, HGTV, IFC, Nickelodeon, TLC and Viceland, while its 46-channel package adds Cooking Channel and Discovery Life, among others, to the lineup. Philo, which counts A+E Networks, AMC Networks, Discovery, Scripps and Viacom among its backers, allows three concurrent streams per account.
