Indiana telecom company Smithville has enhanced its IPTV service by putting into place a system that records live broadcast TV and enables on-demand and restart viewing.
The capability is enabled by Edgeware and Minerva, which have been partnering for a couple of years. The system integrates the former’s Distributed Video Delivery Network (D-VDN) platform and the latter’s middleware and back office technologies.
“Edgeware, along with Minerva’s technology, stood out against the competition in terms of simplicity and time to implement,” said Dave Brodin, CTO of Smithville. ”The technical implementation was extraordinarily quick and easy. We had TV flowing within a few days, and we were able to offer restart TV from the same platform, which no one else in our area can offer.”
Edgeware noted that its platform gives Smithville a path to provide additional services, such as VOD, nPVR, time-shift TV, retransmission and fast channel change, as well as multi-screen retail and wholesale CDN services, while paying as they grow.
Smithville Communications is Indiana’s largest independent telecommunications broadband provider, operating in southern Indiana.
