Qwest Communications International announced this morning that it has reached tentative agreements with two unions after the previous labor contracts had expired over the weekend.
After negotiations stalled over wage and health-care issues, Qwest has proposed contracts in place with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). The tentative contracts will cover nearly all of the 20,000 CWA workers, which makes it Qwest’s largest union, and the nearly 200 IBEW members in Montana.
Qwest didn’t provide details for the two new contracts, other than that both contracts are for three years. The contracts for the IBEW and CWA members expired at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 16.
Denver-based Qwest will be providing Internet and phone services to the Democratic National Convention in Denver later this month, as well as service to the Republican National Convention that begins Sept. 1 in St. Paul, Minn.
