Cable operators RCN and Atlantic Broadband this week announced rollouts of TiVo upgrades that feature increased personalization, navigation and search functionality across multiple screens.
RCN said it’s launching its Advanced TiVo Experience in Lehigh Valley, Pa., Philadelphia, New York and Boston, with plans to bring the new interface to customers in Chicago and Washington D.C. by the end of summer.
“The popularity of Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant have kick-started and fueled the rapid adoption of voice control capabilities that aid consumers in enhancing the entertainment experience. Globally, voice control is vying to become the primary user interface for the smart home and connected lifestyle in the next 5 years,” said Chris Fenger, COO of RCN, in a statement. “As our customers continue to seek new and innovative features and voice control services, RCN remains dedicated to providing immersive advanced viewing and streaming capabilities for all customers, from movie lovers to sports fans alike. With this new predictive interface and voice remote, customers can navigate content in the blink of an eye, across multiple platforms and streaming services.”
The new advanced interface offers start-over capabilities and more tailored recommendations and predictions, as well as the ability to view all recorded and streaming videos in one location.
Atlantic Broadband, meanwhile, said that the TiVo Experience 4 features a new voice remote that provides highly-accurate results, even when users only say part of a title or key word. Customers can also search content across live TV, DVR recordings, on-demand and OTT apps like Netflix, as well as view programs across multiple screens including TVs, smartphones and tablets.
“The new experience is not only visually beautiful, but will transform the TV experience for our customers,” said Heather McCallion, VP of Products and Programming for Atlantic Broadband.
In concert with the TiVo platform upgrade, Atlantic Broadband is also introducing a new IP-based VOD platform from SeaChange. Atlantic broadband said the TiVo Experience 4 and IP VOD platform launched in Connecticut service areas, with plans to roll out the enhancements in New Hampshire and Maine later this month, followed by other markets by year’s end.
