RCN Corp. has put the finishing touches on its network upgrades in Manhattan, including several high-rise apartment buildings, and as a result it is now seeing an increase in customers taking bundled high-speed data and phone services.
Backed by its MegaBand proprietary two-way fiber network, the competitive cabler is offering multi-tenant apartment buildings in Manhattan a package of cable TV, digital telephony and high-speed Internet services.
And it appears the tenants are buying in bunches. Almost 75 percent of the installations in the second quarter 2004 were for product bundles. Average revenue per customer in the market also jumped up 30 percent in the past year, and average services per customer rose 25 percent.
The service bundles include MegaModem Mach7, RCN’s high-speed Internet service offering connections of up to 7 Mbps downstream and 800 kbps upstream. It also offers video-on-demand, HDTV and digital video recording services.
