RCN has been on something of a 1 Gbps tear in major U.S. metros in the last couple weeks. First it revealed a New York City deployment of a Gig, and then Chicagoland. This week it announced the ultra high speeds for the Beltway area.
RCN announced the availability of 1 Gbps speeds to D.C. Metro residents in its serviceable areas, including Washington, D.C., Montgomery County, Md., Falls Church and the Braemar community in Bristow, Va.
As has been its habit around these gigabit announcements, RCN stresses that the use of DOCSIS 3.1 technology makes it possible for RCN residential customers to receive the speeds through the same wiring they already have in their homes. So, the flowerbeds are safe if subscribers want to upgrade to 1 Gbps.
“The fastest Internet speeds in the market are now available to the D.C. area where reliable, uninterrupted and high performance speed is in high demand,” Sanford Ames, Jr., SVP and GM of RCN D.C. Metro, says. “We recognize our customer’s need for speed is getting stronger with multiple devices, over-the-top (OTT) video content, smart homes, and more. By integrating the newest technologies, RCN remains unrivalled in D.C. innovation.”
Pricing for the service starts at $69.99 a month for 12 months.
