Consumers in Boston who plan on scoring a slate of new connected devices over the holidays will have a faster internet option from RCN if they find themselves feeling the need for speed. The service provider announced the immediate availability of 330 Mbps internet to residents in Boston and nearby Brookline, Newton, Waltham, Framingham, and surrounding communities. The bump is said to be more than double its current offering, and the service has a starting price tag of $54.99/month for 12 months.
Last week, RCN announced the 330 Mbps internet offering would be available to residents in Lehigh Valley, Pa. It also has been stirring the 1 Gbps pot recently in several major metros with gigabit service reveals in Philadelphia, New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago. In its announcements it has stressed that DOCSIS 3.1 technology makes it possible for RCN residential customers to receive the gigabit speeds through the same wiring they already have in their homes. The starting price is reported to be just under $70/month for 12 months.
RCN also says it will have some holiday deals available from Nov. 23-30. Internet and TV packages will be offered across all of RCN’s serviceable cities. A Visa gift card and free installation will also be available to new customers who sign up by Nov. 30.
