RCN announced that Jose “Joe” Cecin has been named to the newly created position of executive vice president and chief operating officer for the company.
Cecin, 46, will head up RCN’s residential and business services, which were previously managed separately, and will report to president and CEO Peter Aquino. Senior vice president and RCN Metro Optical Networks President Felipe Alvarez will continue to report to Aquino.
Cecin joined RCN’s board of directors on April 1 and will retain his board seat, but he will step down from the audit and compensation committees. RCN said it’s in the process of conducting a search for additional independent directors.
“Joe Cecin has spent his entire career developing, growing and running integrated cable/telecommunications providers,” Aquino said. “His deep experience and entrepreneurial spirit will provide key leadership to our growth strategy for the residential/small-medium business segment, which currently contributes over 70 percent of RCN’s consolidated revenues, and additional bench strength to the corporation. We welcome him into the RCN executive team and look forward to his contributions in future.”
RCN said Cecin has more than 24 years of leadership and management experience and has had a strong focus on telecom operations, finance and corporate development over his career. Most recently, he was founder and president of Lumina Advisors, a strategy, operations and corporate development advisory company.
Prior to Lumina, he was managing director and group head of the communications investment banking practice of BB&T Capital Markets, the investment banking division of BB&T Corp.
