Over builder RCN has bumped up its fastest data tier in Chicago to 110 Mbps on the downstream and 15 Mbps on the upstream.
Prior to Chicago, RCN had rolled out its 110/15 Mbps Internet speeds in Boston, New York City, Washington DC, and Philadelphia.
Comcast has a large presence in Chicago, and yesterday AT&T announced its 1-Gigabit service would be deployed in the Windy City, but didn’t say when or where.
“At RCN, we continue to redefine what service means to our everyday consumer,” states Tom McKay, RCN senior vice president and general manager for Chicago. “Our customers have come to understand that they can expect the best from us, and we continue to meet and exceed those expectations. Our 110Mbps service is yet another example of this. When casual surfers, social media users, gamers, movie streamers, information gatherers and video chatters are all under one roof, they can count on RCN to provide the service they need to stay up and running.”
RCN’s 110/15 Mbps tier starts at $49.99 per month for new customers, with no long-term contracts and a three-year price assurance. RCN said it would also increase customers’ download speeds by boosting their 75/10 Mbps tier to 110/15 Mbps.
It’s been a busy year for RCN as it has doubled customers’ upload speeds, increased download speeds, added Netflix to its TiVo DVRs, launched TV apps and introduced its six-tuner TiVo T6 DVR. In February, RCN became the first cable operator to launch the Opera TV store on TiVo DVRs.
