RCN has started offering its subscribers the TiVo T6 HD DVR that comes with six tuners and a 1 terabyte hard drive for storage.
In addition to being able to record six HD shows simultaneously, TiVo Stream is built into the T6 box to allow subscribers to stream live TV and recorded shows to other TVs and devices within a home.
RCN’s TiVo service is integrated with apps from the Opera Store, Netflix and YouTube, and includes cross-platform search capabilities.
“Just like RCN’s recent launch of the Netflix app on our TiVo service, RCN’s TiVo T6 redefines the way our customers are able to watch and discover great TV,” said Chris Fenger, chief operating officer at RCN. “TiVo T6 DVR delivers an enhanced, state-of-the-art experience that our customers have come to expect from us. By offering a DVR that can record six shows at once, plus an all-integrated, intuitive experience, there’s an unrivalled world of great entertainment at our customers’ fingertips.”
RCN said the T6 user interface was smoother, faster and easier to use compared to the previous iteration while the new RF remote control doesn’t need line of site to the DVR in order to function.
“TiVo’s T6 is the most powerful DVR we’ve delivered to date,” says Thomas Elam, general manager, TiVo’s service provider business. “TiVo is proud to partner with RCN to bring this solution to their customers. We are committed to continued innovation, and with the new T6 DVR, RCN customers will get the very best TV experience available.”
Last fall Atlantic Broadband was the first cable operator to deploy the T6, which also goes by the retail name of “Roamio Plus DVR.”
RCN elected to go with TiVo as its primary DVR platform in 2009 before launching the service the following year.
