Apple is reportedly planning to use its TV app to offer subscriptions to streaming video services as part of its continued efforts to break into the online video market.
Bloomberg, which cited sources familiar with the matter, noted although the TV app currently allows users to find video content from a range of other apps and channels, users must download or buy them independently of Apple’s app.
Enabling viewers to get them straight from Apple, the report indicated, would make that process easier but, more importantly, promote the app to users of Apple’s mobile devices or its Apple TV platform.
The move, which is expected to debut next year, comes as Apple seeks to capitalize on services in an era of stagnant iPhone sales.
Bloomberg also noted it would mirror Amazon’s Channels service.
