Steve Reynolds has left his job at Comcast to join Denver-based Harris Broadcast.
Reynolds, who played a key role in the development of Comcast’s Reference Design Kit (RDK), was hired as Harris Broadcast’s chief technology officer. In his new job, Reynolds leads product development and research and development for Harris.
Reynolds, who lives in Denver, made the move to Harris to cut down on his travel time to and from Comcast’s headquarters in Philadelphia, according to an industry source. That same source also said that Comcast’s Mark Hess, senior vice president business and industry affairs, has assumed some of Reynolds’ former duties at Comcast, but another employee would take over the rest. Comcast didn’t respond by deadline this morning in regards to Reynolds’ replacements.
Harris said Reynolds is tasked with providing vision and leadership for the nearly 1,000 product and engineering team members as they collaborate with broadcast and communications service provider customers, and design and develop next generation multi-service technology.
Reynolds was previously senior vice president of consumer premises technology at Comcast. He served on an interim basis with Canoe Ventures and was senior vice president of technology at OpenTV prior to joining Comcast in 2007. Reynolds’ cable industry career included previous stints at ACTV, Intellocity and TV Guide.
Harris also announced that Skip Sorenson was hired as its chief financial officer. Both Reynolds and Sorenson will report Harris Broadcast CEO Charlie Vogt, who came on board earlier this year.
“After an intense 100 days since joining Harris Broadcast, we have built a management team that is laser focused on the challenges and opportunities facing our industry, customers and partners,” said Vogt. “Steve and Skip join an outstanding team that shares a clear vision to lead the market in technology innovation and fuel a customer-first culture. Steve’s software and IP pedigree, most recently at Comcast, bring a cutting-edge customer perspective that is ideal for guiding our product direction, while Skip’s financial acumen spanning public and private companies aligns with our long-term goals and objectives.”
“Harris Broadcast is well positioned to serve an industry facing transformational change that will require innovative media and networking solutions,” Reynolds said. “Charlie has assembled an impressive management team that is united by a vision and product direction for accelerating our growth prospects. Our end-to-end portfolio capabilities and sales pipeline are exciting and compelling.”
As CFO, Sorenson is now responsible for financial and IT operations at Harris. Prior to Harris Broadcast, he was executive vice president and CFO for CompuCom. Before CompuCom, Sorenson was the CFO of Lineage Power, which was acquired by General Electric; and prior to Lineage, he served as the senior vice president and chief accounting officer at AECOM Technology. He joined AECOM after serving as executive vice president and CFO at Vought Aircraft, an aerospace subcontractor.
