RGB Networks has partnered with Pi Telecom, which specializes in IP video technology, to develop a software-based broadband video solution.
The solution has already been deployed with Megafon, one of Russia’s largest mobile operators. Megafon is using the system to deliver more than 200 live channels and a range of services, including nDVR and VOD. Access is through set-top boxes (STBs), tablets and smartphones.
Pi Telecom’s MediaStage family of products enables the realization of a wide range of interactive TV solutions. The company’s products can be integrated with existing services for a hybrid IPTV/OTT service, or scaled up to accommodate a full scale OTT rollout.
Pi Telecom’s products integrated with RGB’s software-based transcoding/packaging portfolio (as part of its CloudXtream initiative), enables service providers to deliver an OTT/IPTV solution.
Capable of being hosted in either public or private cloud environments, the solution can be quickly deployed and can instantly scale to accommodate customer demand. The partnership offers smaller European operators the ability to take advantage of moving applications to agile cloud environments as part of their long-term business plans, RGB said.
“From our conversations with providers we understand that they are looking for a cost effective, end-to-end solution capable of delivering a full range of services to a myriad of devices, regardless of network,” said Arie Aig, CEO at Pi Telecom. “MediaStage – integrated with RGB’s transcoding and packaging products – enables rapid introduction of services. We chose RGB Networks for its broad, operational experience and the high-quality and reliability of its product portfolio.”
Andy Salo, vice president of product management at RGB Networks, said, “By uniting with eminent developers like Pi Telecom, we are offering video service providers (VSPs) a competitive, future-proof solution that buoys the multiscreen business case and ensures operators, and the consumer focused services they deliver, stay at the forefront of an increasingly competitive market.”
Pi Telecom was founded by BitBand Technologies veterans that was acquired by Motorola in 2010 and is part of BCC Group. Pi Telecom specializes in the development and marketing of interactive video solutions for OTT, Hybrid (DVB+IP) and IPTV networks.
