Rogers Cable has inked a long-term distribution deal with Shaw Media that covers on-demand, online, mobile (through linear) VOD and mobile content rights.
“Customers win when cable and media companies work together to make content available and affordable on multiple screens,” said David Purdy, vice president of video products for Rogers Communications. “Our long-term deal with Shaw gives Rogers customers access to highly-sought-after, world-class entertainment on their mobiles, on-demand and online, providing the very best TV Anywhere experience they expect from Rogers.”
The channels in the deal included History Television, HGTV Canada and Showcase, as well as on-demand rights to global TV content. The programming is available to the cable operator’s subscribers through the Rogers Digital VIP package and the RogersOnDemand.com Web portal.
“It is extremely gratifying to renew our long-standing relationship with Rogers and secure their continued support of our leading specialty television brands. The agreement acknowledges our investment in programming, aggressive evolution to high-definition offerings and leadership in the on-demand space,” said Shaw Media President Paul Robertson. “This deal is a positive sign that industry players can find middle ground and come to an agreement.”
