Rogers Communications has introduced a second screen app for its video services that enables subscribers to use their mobile devices as a remote control, to perform navigation and search, to program their video recorders, and to stream live video.

The company said it is currently transmitting 25 different channels to broadband subscribers.

Rogers’ Anyplace TV Home Edition application is available now for the iPad and iPhone, with a version for Android devices to follow within a few weeks.

With the new app, Rogers claims to be the first Canadian company to offer an integrated remote PVR management and live TV streaming experience on tablets.

John Boynton, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Rogers Communications, said, “By offering TV management features in addition to live streaming on tablets, customers can control content from a second screen without interrupting what’s currently on their TV.”

Last December, Rogers introduced Rogers Live TV, an app that live streams programming on a tablet from anywhere in the home.
