Rogers Communications is now offering its home automation and security platform in 28 additional cities across Newfoundland and New Brunswick.
Rogers, which uses an IP-based dual network connection to enable the platform, is offering Rogers Smart Home Monitoring in both English and French in the new service areas.
Rogers was the first cable operator to launch a home automation and security platform in Canada in September of 2011. Since then, Bell Aliant, Eastlink and AT&T have announced similar services.
“Newfoundland and New Brunswick are priority regions for Rogers and we continue to invest in technology solutions that leverage Rogers’ proven networks and communication expertise” said Ken Marshall, Rogers President for Atlantic Canada. “In fact, our Moncton call centre, the Centre of Excellence, has been a leader in Rogers Smart Home Monitoring since its inception two years ago and has provided technical support and expertise to all our customers.”
Since its initial launch, Rogers has added numerous new features, including indoor/outdoor night vision cameras; functionality over any broadband service; apps for Apple, Android, Blackberry and Windows 8 devices; and a “system upgrader,” which allows the reuse of legacy sensors, keypads and panels.
The service can remotely monitor water leaks, carbon monoxide levels, cameras, lighting, appliances and thermostat temperatures, and allows customers to customize automation rules to their needs.
Like Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Cox and Comcast, Rogers is using iControl for its software. For the control tablet, Rogers has devices from SMC Networks and Technicolor, both of which are also in play on Comcast’s Xfinity Home service.
Rogers Smart Home Monitoring costs roughly $39.95 a month plus an installation fee.
