Comcast NBCUniversal announced this morning that Mitch Rose was hired as senior vice president of government affairs, NBCUniversal.
In his new job, Rose will report directly to both David L. Cohen, executive vice president of Comcast Corporation, and Kim Harris, NBCUniversal’s executive vice president and general counsel, who is responsible for coordinating NBCUniversal government affairs.
“Mitch’s extensive background working in the private and public sectors for members of Congress, in the media and broadcast industry, and as a valued consultant has demonstrated his deft handling of important issues and strong understanding of the subjects, both domestic and international, that we face,” Cohen said in a statement. “His deep knowledge of the legislative process and industry experience along with his exceptional relationships on Capitol Hill and across Washington brings Comcast and NBCUniversal the perfect combination of skills.”
Rose, who will be located in Comcast NBCUniversal’s Washington D.C. office, previously provided strategic counseling to Comcast, NCTA and RIAA, among others, as principal of Mitch Rose Strategic Consulting.
“We’re thrilled Mitch has agreed to head the government relations operations for NBCUniversal,” Cohen said. “He will be a great addition to the outstanding team we have in place in Washington.”
Prior to starting his own firm, Rose was vice president, government relations, for The Walt Disney Company. At Disney, Rose was responsible for representing the company’s interests before the administration and congress. Rose worked on a variety of issues such as combating piracy of intellectual property, broadcast ownership caps, government involvement in cable and broadcast content and programming decisions, as well as theme park related matters.
Before joining Disney, Rose spent over 15 years on Capitol Hill. From 1997 to 2000, he was chief of staff to Sen. Ted Stevens (R – Alaska). In addition, he served as a legislative aide in the House for two years and in a variety of positions for former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R – Kansas), including press aide.
“While I have been privileged to work with a wide array of clients at my own firm, I’m excited to return to the media and broadcasting industry and begin this next chapter of my career with Comcast and NBCUniversal,” Rose said.
