Rovi reports it filed a lawsuit today asserting that Comcast and its set-top box suppliers infringed on 14 U.S. patents. Rovi maintains that the patents together deliver “the most important features to Comcast customers” and lists as examples the way that Comcast implements remote recording, AnyRoom DVR and X1 search.
“For over a decade, Comcast built its business using Rovi’s patented technology, which it licensed for a fixed term,” Tom Carson, president and CEO at Rovi says in a statement. “After numerous attempts at negotiations, Rovi was left with no choice but to defend its intellectual property from unlicensed use.”
The suit was filed in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.
CED will continue to follow this news, along with any response from Comcast.
