Smart technology is engrained into our daily lives, whether it be through work or social structures, we have information at the tip of our fingers. So it only makes sense that we would want that same technology applied to our vehicles. Samsung has collaborated with Harman, its subsidiary, to come up with the 2019 Digital Cockpit.
This advancement in automotive technology is said to “enrich automotive experiences, heighten personalization, connectivity, and safety throughout a suite of IoT solutions.” The 2019 cockpit is miles from the company’s prototype last year, compounding all driver and passenger needs through continuous links between devices.
In the 2019 cockpit, we see six displays versus the previous year’s three to provide personalized infotainment options to passengers. The dashboard contains three screens, demonstrating crucial information and settings for the driver. What is known as a “Cluster Display” is set in front of the driver, highlighting information including speed and oil gauges, and all of that is customizable to the driver’s preferences. In the back, passengers also get two displays on the head rests of the front seats with personalized viewing options so everyone will be entertained. Additional features such as the driver monitoring system (DMS) and occupant monitoring system (OMS) identify drivers and passengers to adjust the environment to their specific setting.
Both drivers and passengers can connect their smartphone to a specific display through the in-vehicle Samsung DeX, which projects the smart device onto one of the displays. The inclusion of Bixby provides riders with an intuitive artificial intelligence (AI) platform that permits drivers and passengers to control third party apps, all hands free.
The technology also comes with several safety features, including the mirror replacement vision system, front facing camera, and the driver monitoring system which alerts the driver if it detects dangerous behavior such as falling asleep or texting while driving.
